LEGISLATION
The State Earned Income Tax Credit bill, SB 1338, could come up to a vote
on the floor any day. Now is the time to contact your local legislators and urge
its passage. Points to make include:
>>The working poor still pay taxes in CT even if they pay no or little CT Income tax. They pay sales tax and property tax on homes and autos, or indirectly thru rent. They deserve a tax cut also.
>>An EITC rewards work and helps the working poor save money and build assets, especially thru Individual Development Account programs like the ones community action agencies and others operate.

ONE STOP CENTERS REPORT
The Workforce Investment Act of 1998 requires the use of One-Stop Centers
for employment programs funded by the Employment and Training Administration
(ETA) at the U.S. Department of Labor. The concept behind one-stops is that
services can be made more accessible and service delivery can be more efficient
by coordinating and co-locating services that are normally provided by more than
one agency or program. A 1998 Welfare Information Network Issue Paper provides
good online links to resources and models of such services. Online at --
