CT CAA Conference: "Ending Child Poverty: Investing in our Future" a great success! Sept. 24 and 25, 2007 at Marriott, Rocky Hill, CT The Conference was reported about on the Nation magazine's Editors Blog. "At 37 years of age, Deborah Glover says she had lived a middle-class life and never knew poverty. That all changed when she had a car accident, and as a single mother with three kids she could no longer afford to make ends meet..."
Child poverty in Connecticut appeared on WNPR's "Where We Live" on 9/27/2007 Edith Karsky, Executive Director of CAFCA and Shelley Geballe from CT Voices for Children spoke with John Dankowsky of WNPR about child poverty in CT. Connecticut is among the nation's most affluent states, so numbers like this are shocking. The conference held by the Connecticut Community Action Agency put forward a goal of reducing state poverty 50 percent by 2014. But how realistic is that number and is it an aggressive enough of a goal? Some advocates say the poverty numbers go hand in hand with the rate of uninsured, a hot topic as President Bush vetoed the SCHIP program to fund children's health. The child poverty part of the program starts at about 12 minutes and 30 seconds in. CT Community Action Adopts Strategies to Reduce Child Poverty The CAFCA Board of Directors has adopted a new 3 year Strategic Plan which focuses on supporting CT in its effort to reduce child poverty by 50 percent. New Report: Partnerships that Work. Results that Matter! The 2006 CT CAA Annual Report documents the positive impact that CAAs have in our state and local communities, including ROI data and a profile of each CT CAA. CT Community Action Report The CT CSBG Statewide Report for 2006 is a four page summary of the network's use of CSBG funding and outcomes for the 2005 year. DSS Releases the 2007-2008 CSBG Plan Public Hearing occurred on September 22nd and the CSBG Plan was adopted. |
