SELF-ADVOCACY SKILLS PROGRAM 

Are your low income clients facing serious legal problems such as evictions, utility shut offs, bankruptcy, or child custody issues?  Statewide Legal Services can help your clients learn to protect themselves against these problems and the many other problems facing low income people.   

Statewide Legal Services’ Self-Advocacy Skills Program is designed to empower people to make their own choices and take control of their legal problems before they become too serious.  

The program will focus on: 

·                    how to keep important papers and records organized 

·                    what papers and records should be kept in case a problem arises in the future 

·                   how to prepare both factually and emotionally when the client is trying to          resolve the legal problem on their own.   

·                    when a problem just cannot wait  

·                    where a client can turn to when the problem is too complicated for them to handle on their own.
